This identifies the instrument as a “ladies’ banjo”, made for easy-of-play for women and children. This banjo has a 11” diameter rim, and a short-scale fingerboard that has only 17 frets. I purchased this banjo at an estate and have done nothing to it. After 1904 these banjos were made by Vega. of Boston, Massachusetts, and introduced in 1901, the Whyte Laydie banjo is one of the most iconic banjos.
